Two hundred years of The Maritime Malt

1826-2026

Two centuries of harsh conditions, strong character and industrious craftsmanship. Our single malt is shaped by all three. This year, we mark the moment

Character Runs Deep

Where sea and land collide. The salt-laden winds of the North Sea find their way into our open warehouses and intoourcasks. The people of Wick work with the conditions, not around them – resilient, industrious. Two hundred years, and eachone shows in the glass.

1826

The year it began.

James Henderson founded Pulteney Distillery in Wick. The port was at its peak – 2,000 herring boats working the harbour. A perfect time to make whisky. A perfect place, too.

219 years

Our oldest piece of kit.

The lade that carries our water from Loch Hempriggs was here before the distillery. It’s been doing its job for over two hundred years, without once asking for an upgrade.

Much further north, and you’d be in the sea

Wick is one of the most northerly distilling towns in mainland Scotland. The latitude matters. The cold, the wind, the salt – all of it finds its way into our casks.

5 Tonnes

Every single batch.

The Porteus mill that grinds our malted barley is over a hundred years old.

60 Hours

Give or take.

An exceptionally long fermentation, timed not by a clock but by craft. The same way it’s always been done here.

Herring boats every day

The year we opened, Wick was one of the busiest fishing ports in the world. Thirsty work. We’vebeen here ever since.

Steadfast since 1826

The herring boats are long gone. The distillery has never stopped.

Industrial craftsmanship

Copper stills, oak casks, and the steady hands of generations.

 A still like no other

Our unmistakable flat top still develops the spirit within, and lends our bottle its iconic shape.

The people of Wick

Resilient, witty, quietly proud. This character runs deep through every bottle we make.
