There’s nothing that evokes nostalgia more so than the British love for its unique seaside.
Millions flock to the coast each year. Whether it is dog walking, Bank holiday weekends, soaking up the sunshine or eating fish and chips with the grandparents – everyone has special memories of their time spent by the sea.
To honour our nautical heritage and celebrate the British love for the seaside, we are launching our annual – ‘Wish You Were Here’ photography competition – inviting amateur photographers to revitalise the concept of the traditional ‘wish you were here’ postcard for a chance to win a £2,500 cash prize and a trip to Pulteney Distillery.
Karen Walker, Marketing Director from Old Pulteney said:
“Coming from the small coastal town of Wick, Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky has long embraced the sea as a source of inspiration.
We know that so many people get artistic joy from maritime moments, and this is the opportunity to capture creative photographs that reflect Britain’s time-honoured relationship with the sea.
Now celebrating the twelfth year of the competition, Wish You Were Here has uncovered some of the UK’s most gifted amateur photographers and we’re very excited to see the entries this year.”
The winning photograph in 2016 was taken by Gillian Kennett, from Louth in Lincolnshire, who captured her lurcher dog, Hagrid, ‘photobombing’ a snap of the sunset at the stunning deserted beach of Theddlethorpe, near Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire.
Award winning photographer and one of the judges of the competition, Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert said:
“Having enjoyed the fresh, salty, sea air as I’ve undertaken many photography assignments on the Scottish North Sea, and on oceans further afield, I greatly look forward to seeing how entrants interpret this competition brief. I anticipate seeing images which really do make me wish I was there!”
The competition opens on Wednesday 2nd August and closes 29th September 2017. The winner will be announced week commencing 6th November and contacted no later than the week commencing 23rd October.
