The annual J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is a special gathering of people from across the sailing community in the UK and beyond. For one weekend every year Cowes on the Isle of Wight transforms into the world capital of sailing and we wouldn’t miss that for the world.
Every year we set up a sampling tent in the Race Village in the harbour and every year we are amazed by just how much love for Old Pulteney there is among the sailors in our part of the world. This year we poured Old Pulteney Navigator, an expression of our single malt directly honouring Pulteney Distillery’s maritime heritage, as well as our iconic and much-loved 12 Year Old, a whisky that captures the character of the Caithness Coast better than any other.
What’s more, this year we also offered a sweet alternative, Stroma Liqueur. Made here at Pulteney using Old Pulteney single malt, Stroma’s sweet and fragrant taste suits palates not accustomed to whisky and works very well in cocktails which, given the current weather, makes us reach for it regularly.
Thank you to all who stopped by to sample Old Pulteney or Stroma, as always we were humbled by all the kind words. But, as you may expect, drinking whisky wasn’t everything we did.
Old Pulteney yacht took part in the race and finished 5th out of 40 entrants in the ISCRS 6B division. A lot of preparation and hard work went into the regatta and all that remains now is to say well done and raise a dram to the skipper and the crew – you’ve made us all proud!
Hope to see you in Cowes next year. The island beckons.
